Review Guidelines
Our primary mission is to find good content that is free, low cost, and/or of exemplary quality, focusing primarily on the output from indie and micro presses. As a result, we have broadened our mission from reviewing ebooks alone to reviewing all output from small presses, along with ebooks from any publisher, since we believe quality works from small presses don’t receive the attention they deserve.
We are also open to publishing reviews of art sites or shows, music available for purchase in downloadable formats, or from indie and/or unusual groups, and we are interested in reviews of websites and content provided specifically for the disabled or other special interest groups.
Materials reviewed do not necessarily follow the theme of the issue in which they appear and review submissions do not need to be themed.
Requesting a Review
We accept requests for review from publishers, authors, and publicists, and often find books to review on our own as well. Please let us know in the body of your email if you would like the review to come out close to the release date of your book or early (if provided early), and we will do our best to oblige. Be sure to include the ISBN if it has one, the price, the release date, and where your book is or will be available for purchase. Your book does not have to be a new release to be reviewed. We like uncovering older gems as well as newer ones.
If you’d like us to review your electronic book, the book must be available at Fictionwise or other large download based seller (All Romance eBooks, Mobipocket, eBookmall.com, Amazon, etc.). Please send an electronic copy in PDF, DRM-free Mobipocket or Microsoft Reader format to our submissions address with “REQUEST FOR REVIEW” in the subject.
Please follow the same guidelines for review of your chapbook. Chapbooks do not have to be available as ebooks. If you do not have an electronic copy of your chapbook, please send a request for our mailing address to the submissions email address.
Opinions are funny things. Everyone has one and ours may very well be different from yours. Please be prepared to ignore our review if you don’t like it. We won’t mind.
Submitting a Review
You may submit a review of a work that fulfills our criteria for possible inclusion, including chapbooks, ebooks, music, and art. The word count limit is 1,000 words (though we can certainly be flexible if necessary) and the review must be balanced and fair, but does not have to be kind. We accept reviews from authors, artists, and industry professionals as well as avid readers or other interested parties.
If accepted, your review will be treated as any other submission and will be paid at our standard rate of 1/2 cent per word.
Please contact us at our submissions address (submissions AT membradisjecta.com) for more information on how to see your review in the pages of Membra Disjecta.
